One of Bihar’s most dominant craft forms is the Sujini embroidery work known for its stylised embroidery and detailed and complex workmanship. Sujini embroidered work includes bedspreads, wall hangings, and cushion and bolster covers as well as clothing items like saris, dupattas, and kurtas. The word “Sujini” derives from the word “Sujan” which means noble and dear. Women used to make Sujini on the occasions of birth and marriage to present to their loved ones. Embroidery is done on fine muslin and its uniqueness is in its story-telling theme. Another important feature is that only female members of the families are engaged in this craft.
