The product is produced in Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh. Brocade is a heavy fabric with a raised pattern or floral design and is recognized throughout as a sign of opulence and elegance. Banaras is considered as the origin point and the most important production centre of silk brocades and sarees. However, with the increase in demand of the products, the weavers from neighbouring district are now producing these products. At present, the weavers of Varanasi, Azamgarh, Mirzapur, Sant Ravi Nagar and Chandauli districts produce Banaras silk sarees and brocades.
