The Gobindabhog rice is characterised by its exotic aroma and sweet buttery flavour.The strength of aroma and taste is the result of the combined influence of the soil and climate of the region in South eastern region of West Bengal where it is grown. It derives its name from its usage as the principal ingredient in the preparation of the offerings to Govindajiu, the family deity of the Setts of Kolkata. The grains of ‘Gobindabhog’ are golden-yellow in colour. Gobindabhog’ rice is used for preparation of payesh (dessert), bhog (pulse inter-mixed with rice), polao, chira (flattened rice) and pitha (home-made cakes).
