Mahabaleshwar strawberry is cultivated, processed and made available mainly from Mahabaleshwar taluk of Satara district, Maharashtra. Red laterite soil in Mahabaleshwar is rich in iron which increases the nutritional value of strawberries and contains up to 80% water which makes it juicier. Standard percentage of glucose in a strawberry is 7% whereas in Mahabaleshwar strawberry it is up to 10% which makes it naturally sweeter. It contains 0.25-0.7 % proteins, 8.5-9.2% carbohydrate, and 0.1% fiber. The red colour of these strawberries is maintained due to the right amount of heat and sunlight available in Mahabaleshwar. Fresh water such as percolated water through bore wells is made available for Mahabaleshwar strawberries which keeps them fresh for longer time and disease-free.
