The Kadaknath/ Karaknath, locally known as ‘Kali Masi’ is an Indian breed of chicken from the district Jhabua in Madhya Pradesh. The commonly available varieties of Kadaknath are jet-black pencilled and golden. The oneness and singularity of this breed is that it is black inside and out – skin, feather, legs, meat, blood, trachea, base of heart. Also, the blue tinge of the earlobes adds to its singleness. The black flesh of Kadaknath is very delicious and very popular among the native tribal people. The breed is well suited to extreme climatic conditions and can tolerate extreme heat and cold climatic conditions. Therefore, maintenance cost is minimal.
