Alphonso

Devgad Taluka, in the Western Ghats, Maharashtra is famous for production of the best quality of Alphonso mango known as Devgad Alphonso. This variety is well known for its flavour, fruity aroma, thick pulp, low fiber content and thin skin/peel. With a conventional mango shape, its average weight is 200-350 gm The nose of the mango is small and upon maturation is pushed inside Its pulp is thick and sticks to the stone. The fruit starts to mature from February end till May-June. The Alphonso mango, named after Alfonso De Albuquerque, a Portuguese explorer and military strategist, is considered to be one of the best mangoes in the world.
