Dhaniakhali sarees from Hooghly district are unique for their dobby design, compact texture and colour fastness. They havev acquired an important place for their special characteristics in dying, designing, weaving and particularly human skilled-related weaving process. These sarees finds a significant place in the among traditional Bengal handloom sarees. The original Dhaniakhali saree may be only 50 to 100 years old, and has a near-opaque off-white ground, with a plain narrow 2.5 inches wide coloured borders emphasized by fine stripes above.
