The characteristics of Coorg orange are due to a combination of genetic constitution of orange’s variety as well as the geographical region where they grow. Coorg orange is characterized by a dark, orange pulp, tender pulp, juicy fruit with a rich flavour and excellent blend of acid sugar. Fruits are of medium – size, fairly tight skin, orange-yellow in colour. Coorg orange can grow in all types of loamy soils which are deep and well drained. The fruits are tender and readily damaged by cold. The geographical area covers Coorg, Kodagu, Hassan and Chikmagalur districts in Karnataka.

Coorg Orange

Coorg Orange

Coorg orange was introduced to India by British in the 1830’s.
